Craft Skills

We believe in celebrating the true heritage values of each building, garden, park or monument we work on, providing practical solutions to enhance the historic integrity of the property or landscape. We take pride in the quality of our craftsmanship and take every measure to encompass the individual requirements of our very different clients.

Lime Plasterwork and Renders

Our experienced plasterers provide technical competence mixed with attention to detail that produces excellent results when using lime-based plasters and renders. We can carry out large areas of repair work, including filling in cracks and fractures to plain or decorative plasterwork, external rendering or Stucco - always fully appreciating the original substrate of the material.

Stonemasonry

Our stonemasons undertake a diverse range of sympathetic stonemasonry restoration and conservation, working to the highest standards of workmanship using traditional skills and natural materials on plain or decorative stone, terracotta, faience and marble. Conservation of dressed masonry using indents and lime mortar repairs further complement the skills offered.

Brickwork and Flintwork

Using long established craft skills, techniques and materials our highly experienced craftsmen provide a sensitive repair and rebuilding service. Detail includes gauged and rubbed brickwork, tuck pointing and flintwork in lime mortar. Repairs to traditional flintwork include knapped, coursed, galleted or random, inclusive of rebuilding or re-pointing.

Timber Frame Repairs

Restoration of traditional timber frame construction and joint repair treatments requires a true understanding and appreciation of the material and its unique location. Our craftsmen can provide this traditional standard and assurance undertaking both repair and replacement works to structural frames and applied decorative timber mouldings, including lapped and scarf joints.

Wattle and Daub

We sensitively carry out the repair and reinstatement of wattle and daub panels. Whenever practical we will re-use the original daub to retain the authenticity of the fabric or use a careful mix of subsoil, cow dung, chopped straw and water. The new daub can be used together with additional or replacement wattles for a finish that best matches the existing facade.

Joinery

Our time-served joiners use traditional methods, craft skills and materials from sustainable sources to repair, refurbish or overhaul a variety of timber products. A selection includes timber box sash windows, shutters, casement windows, doors and panels. Minor repairs using window care products are also undertaken by the team.
